Learning Program
JLPT N2 and N1 Listening Preparation
Program outline
10-Week Plan
- Weeks 1–2: N2 question type orientation — immediate response, contextual comprehension, integrated tasks
- Weeks 3–4: N1 monologue and multi-speaker passage practice
- Weeks 5–6: Distractor analysis and elimination strategy sessions
- Weeks 7–8: Timed mock sections under exam conditions with scoring
- Weeks 9–10: Weak-area review based on mock results, final two full-length simulations
Each week includes one live session and one self-paced audio set. Sessions run 75 minutes to match extended focus needed for N1.
About this course
What the exam actually tests
The JLPT listening sections do not test general comprehension — they test specific question types with deliberate distractors. Understanding the structure matters as much as understanding the audio.
N2 versus N1 difficulty differences
N2 passages are typically 60–90 seconds and test direct information recall. N1 passages go up to 3 minutes and often require inference about speaker attitude or implied meaning.
Common reasons people lose marks
- Choosing an answer heard in the audio that contradicts the correct information
- Missing question stems read before the passage plays
- Losing focus during longer monologue passages
Practice material format
Every session uses past-style audio modelled on official exam format. After each question, the instructor explains why each wrong option was placed there and how to identify distractor patterns.
Scheduling and exam timing
The course runs as a 10-week intensive with optional monthly refresher sessions. Recommend enrolling at least 12 weeks before your exam date.
Amara Osei-Frimpong, graduate student — I failed the N2 listening section twice before this course. The distractor explanation method genuinely changed how I approach questions.
